About
Dr. Mubashir Wani, CEng®, PMP®, is a researcher and engineer. His research focus is primarily on AI-driven energy systems, smart grids, cognitive cities, and sustainable building optimization.
He received his BEng (Hons) degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering in 2015 from the University of Kashmir, India. Following a brief internship in Embedded Systems at Hewlett Packard (HP), Mubashir pursued an MSc in Energy and Sustainability with Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, and was granted the degree in 2016.
After working briefly as an Assistant Professor and Automation Engineer in India, he joined the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 2018 to pursue his PhD. His doctoral research focused on formal/computational modeling of buildings and the application of Computational Intelligence (CI) - Meta-heuristics and Evolutionary Algorithms - to Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS). Mubashir was awarded his PhD on May 7, 2024. His research was fully funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) via Callaghan Innovation, New Zealand's Crown entity.
Currently, Mubashir is an Electrical Design Engineer at Jacobs Engineering Inc. in the UAE, where he is directly involved with Giga-sized projects. Additionally, he is involved with topics like Optimization of Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows, studying and creation of Digital Twins via simulation and real-world implementations. His further research interests include the Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber Physical Systems (CPS), Robotics/Automation, Energy Optimization, and AI/ML.
